Imani Clinic: Fourteen Years of Service!
Imani, a Swahili word meaning "faith", was selected partially for the African philosophy of community embodied in the principles of Kwanzaa, an African-American year-end tradition. The word also represents the faith that we as students have in the strength and worthiness of our communities, as well as the faith we hope to foster within those communities of the ability of the health care system to address their medical needs and social realities. Learn more about our ten-year history in the 'About Imani Clinic' section, as well as in article by LaDonna White, MD: The Fulfillment of a Dream- How Imani Clinic was Founded.
Imani in Oak Park
In addition to providing urgent health care and preventive medical services to Oak Park residents each Saturday, Imani Clinic also conducts community outreach through events such as the annual Ulezi Family Health Faire. Each year, this event provides blood pressure screenings, health education resourses, and hosts community based organizations dedicated to providing education and health information. See the ' Community Outreach' section of this site for more information on Imani Clinic's community involvement.
Announcements:
Dear Oak Park community, Imani supporters and volunteers,
Imani Clinic has been serving the Oak Park community for 14 years. Each Saturday, we open our doors to provide essential healthcare to anyone and everyone who comes seeking healthcare. Imani Clinic may be forced to close in June due to reasons related to the declining economy and budget cuts. However, we feel that in this crucial time Imani's mission to provide free healthcare services to the underserved is even more important. It is critical to keep Imani's doors open to help fill the gaps in healthcare access. Please help us prevent the closure of Imani Clinic. Petitions are available to sign at the Saturday clinics. Please feel free to email any of the medical student Co-Directors for more information on ways to help.
Sincerely,
The Imani Co-Directors
