Imani Clinic: Making a Difference

Patient care constitutes but only one aspect of Imani's stated goals. We also strive to be an integral participant in Oak Park and minority communities (particularly for African-Americans), and conduct various outreach projects to accomplish this. As the brainchild of the Students National Medical Association (SNMA) chapter at UC Davis, Imani Clinic strives to improve outcomes--medical, academic, and social--among Oak Park residents. Below is a list of some of the community projects that Imani Clinic and SNMA are involved with:

Ulezi Family Health Faire (formerly known as the Ulezi Children's Health Faire): hosted in mid-summer every year, this large event provides free health screenings and invaluable health care information to the community of Oak Park

IHEOP (Imani Health Education and Outreach Program): Imani undergraduate volunteers are trained by UC Davis Medical Students in order to council and advise patients with chronic illnesses (such as Hypertension and Diabetes) to help them make lifestyle modifications and maintain their chronic illnesses.

Rebuilding Oak Park: organized by leaders in the Sacramento region, Rebuilding Oak Park allows volunteers to go through the Oak Park neighborhood and participate in community cleanup and construction projects

Black Family Day: hosted on the main UC Davis campus in the spring, Black Family Day celebrates African-American culture, family, and hope.

Family Night: Imani volunteers also join the Oak Park Community during Family Night Events at Oak Park Community Center.

AIDS Education Project: this outreach effort seeks to teach teenagers about the perils of STDs, most particularly HIV and AIDS

UC Davis American Medical Student Association fundraising events for the student-run clinics: Winetasting in the fall, Auctioning in the winter, and the Heartbeat Run in the spring
